Why does an unpleasant smell remain on clothes after they have been washed?

This problem may arise in particular when unscented detergents are used. Actually, the source of the problem is often scale inside the washing machine, which releases an unpleasant odour into the water. To prevent this problem, it is advisable to wash out the washing machine using descaler at least 2-4 times a year.

What causes the excessive frothiness of laundry gel and washing powder?

Dosing detergent without a dosing device often tends to lead to the overconsumption of detergent. When you dose detergent, it is advisable to follow the information on the pack and use the designated device.

Another reason may be excessively soft water. This is not a bad thing at all, since the action of detergent is stronger in soft water, and less detergent has to be dosed. A smaller quantity of detergent helps to save money and also solves the problem of frothiness.

In most areas in Estonia, water hardness is high; however, there are also some exceptions. Information about water hardness is available on the website of the company that supplies you with water. If you have your own borewell, this information is available in the technical documentation of your borewell.

Why does washing powder leave clothes stiff once they have dried?

The reason may be that detergent residue has remained in the fabric. This may be due to the fact that the washing powder has not completely dissolved in the water or has been overdosed. When you are dosing washing powder, you should follow the information on the pack.
Another reason may be the excessively high degree of water hardness, which is generally characteristic of water in Estonia. In this case, you should add fabric softener every time you do washing. Fabric softeners contain water softening agents, the action of which causes fabric to remain soft.
